We all got to the
airport and were looking forward to the sun shine... We found out pretty
soon that we had to wait another day because the plane was delayed. So
we were checked into the Sheraton Hotel. We left the next day at 15h00
and got to Windhoek at 0h00. By the time we all got into Windhoek it was
1h00. We, Robby and myself, were staying at the Bierbrauer family. We
were giving a room and here I would like to that the whole Family for
their support and making us feel at home there. The next morning I was
up at 7h00 and the first thing I did was 2 jump into the pool to wake
up. It was perfect weather. Web spent the day looking around Windhoek .I
bought some biltong (speciality in South Africa and Namibia. Its Dried
meat and Sausage ohhhh man I could live on that..
On Friday we drove out to the track to with Robby’s Grandfather his Mom
and dad ( who were staying in the Hotel). It had changed a lot since the
last time I was there. It was a bit SX-style and fast in some sections.
Our bikes only got there on Friday late and by the time we were finished
putting then together it was 1h00.
We were up at 6h00 the next day to get to the track early. The bikes
went through Tec control really easy (hey with Robby and myself as
Mechanics what did u expect). I think we had a whole 15 min practise.
The track was fun to ride and I was looking forward to the racing. Robby
and I had 2 things working against us.
1.
was the altitude 1800
meters above sea level
2.
The heat was a definite
reason J Gees I have been in a cold country for a long time
I was going well and it was
good racing. Ross Branch was flying as well and he put some pressure on
me in the beginning of the races. I had to push hard for nearly the
whole race in all my heats. Robby was riding well also and I was quite
surprised to see that the heat was killing him. I won all my heat races
and in the King Of the Dirt I didn’t wait long. I got a reasonable start
and by the 3 lap I was out front pushing hard getting away from the rest
of the field. I won and was pretty pumped… The weather had changed a bit
and it was overcast and a cool.
But now that didn’t perturb us at all … The prize giving was a good but
the Foam party was a lot of fun. Here I would like to remind Ross Branch
it was his fault that I got wet.
I was talking to Robby’s Parents when the Snow Yeti Branch (who was
completely covered in white foam) Ross comes running up and drags me to
the Foam pit. I gave all my money and telephone to Rob’s grandfather and
followed Ross into a wall of Foam.
Anyway we ended up getting VERY wet and having to have to change into
dry clothes aaahhh hello what dry clothes ?????? None of us had any so
we got into our racing gear….
Oh well it was fun and I think we all got back about 3h00. That was a
good way 2 end a good days racing.
The next day Robby and my self were up at 7h00 again swimming. Or Trying
to come 100% awake. We looked and felt like Zombies.. We were all worked
up because we were going down to the Dunes on Monday. We checked the
bikes and on Monday Carsten Kölling and Bennie came and picked us and
the bikes up and I drove down with them in the van having a party. We
had a fun trip down and the last 50 km things start getting Sandy. The
last 10 km was a fog bank and the Temperature dropped 15 C. Which made
it about 22c ;-) We were Staying at the Hall Family (Here a Huge thanks
to them for putting up with us) and They took us all out to a Restaurant
in Mosselbai which was out in the sea. It was awesome…
But that wasn’t the only thing that got us wound up …. On the way there
we drove past THE SAND DUNES oooohh my hat we could hardly sleep…
We woke up at 6h45 … I made some coffee for Carsten and he just shook
his head and said we were crazy. We were at the dunes at about 9h00… I
was so nervous I could hardly get dressed… Geees. I was dressed and
ready to go I started my bike, warmed her up and yyiiihhhaaa. I got a
whole 100 meters before I hit the ground. I was sliding my bike in a big
drift, I took my one hand off and was dragging that in the sand next 2
me when I hit a hard patch and the bike caught. After the second crash
which was ahhhh may by 40 sec later I took it easy. I drove up to the
top of the dune and was met with 40 meter nearly straight down slope.. I
was hmmmmm I’m not jumping anything till I’ve look on the other side of
it … It all started semi normal but very soon went downhill after that
…. It was so much fun I cant describe it into words that match the
pleasure… I rode out 40 liter’s of fuel . That makes 5h30 of riding
time…..
We, Robby and myself, rode out into the Dunes and built tracks and jumps
every where. The problem when our Fuel got low and we went to tank up we
couldn’t find our last track… wasn’t a problem … we just made a new 1.
But Night fall we were dead tired but extremely happy.
We couldn’t wait till the next day so we could go riding again…We met a
lot of other riders out at a special Dune and went riding from there…
I found some stupid things to jump and once again I was In Heaven…
Heaven IS a Sand Dune as far as I’m convinced… I found a Double Jump 1
dune 2 another 1 which was 52 METERS Robby tried a 45 Meter double and
came up short …. He gave me a heart attack but it just hurt his back a
bit.. ok he was sore. His bike was lacking Horsepower in the deep sand,
but at least he tried ….
We went to a golf cause and they made the mistake of giving Robby and I,
Carsten and Benni a golf kart… and the race was on ;-))) We gave the
karts back in one piece of cause… (ok nearly in 1 piece ;-)) We all had
a BBQ and then On Friday we drove up to Windhoek.
Robert Senior and Grams cleaned our bikes and we were race ready. The
day was a cooker and we were pretty warm. I was riding well and had a
good speed going. I was winning all my races when I had a spark plug cap
come off and I had to stop and put it back on.. in the process I burnt
my arm pretty badly but hey.I ended 4th in that RACE. In the
King of the Dirt I was roosting and won with a comfortable lead. I was
Namibian king of the Dirt Over all winner.
The party raged and we all had a good time. Did you Know that The
Namibians drink the most Jägermeister per head than any where else in
the world.. !!! Ok we helped a bit ;-) We went to Joes Beer House…
That’s has to be one of the best Bar-Restaurant I ever been too. It has
to be on your list of things to do when your in Namibia…
We were up at 9h00 the next day because we had to pack our bikes into
the crates and get them off to the airport.
We Left Namibia with a smile
on our faces.. What a beautiful country .. We would also like to thank
my Friend Fritz Kaufmann ,Horst Schnelle for Getting our bikes in and
out… wasn’t easy ;-) of cause Bernd Kroemer who wrote allot of the race
reports and Ingo Waldschmidt for a good track all the helpers who
organized with flight, hotel ect ect Thank you !!! well be back!
